Fire engulfs Philippine ship; all passengers, crew safe

All 124 passengers and crew members of an interisland ferry that caught fire on Sunday, September 2, in Argao, Cebu were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

PCG Spokesperson Armando Balilo said fire struck MV Liteferry as it neared the dock at the Taloot Wharf in Cebu, reported Inquirer.

The authorities immediately responded to the fire and rescued the passengers and crew onboard the ferry.

The 124 people rescued, including 97 passengers and 27 crew members, were all deemed safe while fire out was declared around 2:30 p.m.

Substation Commander Gerry Patenio of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Argao said authorities are set to begin the investigation on the source of fire and the total amount of damages caused by the incident.
