Congress approves creation of Commission on Children

The Philippines is one step closer to getting its own Commission on Children.

This comes after the House of Representatives approved on August 29 the amended version of House Bill 7118 which seeks the creation of the commission.

If enacted to law, the commission will be the focal agency to coordinate the implementation all laws relative to the promotion of child welfare. The commission will also be in charge of making policies, and programs for the development of children.

Meanwhile, organizations promoting the welfare of children are celebrating the news.

“We laud the members of the House of Representatives for this significant step towards the fulfillment of our long-term vision of a child-friendly Philippines!” Council for the Welfare of Children said in a statement.
