128 Filipino amnesty grantees leave Abu Dhabi

The first batch of overseas Filipino workers from Abu Dhabi who availed of the UAE general amnesty program is set to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Wednesday, August 29.

The 128 OFWs are onboard Philippine Airlines flight PR657 and are expected to arrive at NAIA Terminal 1 around 8:45 am (Manila time) where they will be welcomed by officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Bureau of Immigration (BI).

DFA, in a statement, said that the Office of Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in UAE shouldered the plane tickets of the OFWs as well as their transportation to their respective provinces upon their arrival at NAIA.

The OFWs were also given Php5,000 financial assistance and refund of their personal expenses in processing the necessary travel documents.

Earlier, a total of 217 OFWs from Dubai arrived in the country since the UAE amnesty started. More batches of amnesty grantees from UAE are expected to return home until the amnesty program ends on October 31.

Under the amnesty program, expatriates with overstaying or absconding cases in the UAE are allowed to return home to their respective home countries.
