Saudi village eyes UNESCO World Heritage spot

The Rijal Almaa heritage village in Asir is targeting to be a part of UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

Under the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), the village applied to UNESCO in January 2018.

Located in Asir, the Rijal Almaa is an awardee of the Prince Sultan bin Salman Award for Urban Heritage in 2007 making it an attractive tourist destination for travelers in the region.

Among the attractions in the village is an open theater with a capacity of 1000 people and shopping places that also provide its residents an economic opportunity.

The development of Rijal Almaa is a joint effort of the SCTH, officials from Asir, government and service agencies, and the residents in the village, reported Arab News.
