OWWA offers temporary shelter for OFWs from UAE

MANILA: The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) offers a temporary shelter for Filipinos who decided to come home after availing of the UAE amnesty program, especially those who cannot immediately travel to their respective provinces.

In a press briefing following the arrival of repatriated Filipinos from UAE, OWWA announced that OFWs living in Visayas and Mindanao who missed the available connecting flights for the day can stay in a shelter located at OWWA’s office in Pasay, City. The offer was also opened to those living in Luzon who do not have a family member to accompany them to their provinces.

Some OFWs missed the connecting flights available for the day due to the delay of their arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The OFWs who accepted the offer were brought to the shelter through a shuttle bus organized by OWWA which left shortly after the press briefing ended.

In an interview with The Filipino Times, a high-ranking OWWA official revealed that transportation allowance for OFWs from Visayas and Mindanao include a connecting flight to the nearest airport in their area. Those living in Luzon, meanwhile, were also given monetary budget for their transportation.

OWWA, however, has yet to release an estimate on the number of OFWs who decided to stay in the shelter.

The first batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) from the UAE who availed of the amnesty program arrived at the NAIA Terminal 2 on Thursday, August 16.
