Duterte sacks military officers over corruption

Twenty-two military officers were dismissed from duty by President Rodrigo Duterte over corruption charges under the investigation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Two commanding officials and twenty others were involved in an alleged ghost delivery worth PHP1.4 million to the AFP Health Services Command (HSC) and AFP Medical Center otherwise known as the V. Luna Hospital, reported the PNA.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, among the fired officials are Brigadier General Edwin Leo Torrelavega and Colonel Antonio Punzalan.

Apart from the dismissal, Duterte wants the military officials to go under the court martial.

Meanwhile, the AFP welcomes the martial court order of the erring officials. They will be charged with violation of Article of War 95 or Fraud Against the Government.

The case will be tried under the military justice system and the accused will be given the opportunity to defend themselves in the court martial proceedings.

Roque added that the dismissal was a proof of the President’s continuous fight against corruption.
