OFW who fell from building returns to Davao

The overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia who fell from the fourth floor of his company’s accommodation in April has returned to Davao City.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Davao director Petrona Bergado said the OFW, identified as Cherrloyd A. Laga, has arrived in his hometown in San Isidro, Buhangin District, Davao City, reported Sunstar.

The OFW who works as a mason of the Al Mawarid Recruitment Company in Riyadh reportedly fell from the building on April 18, only a week after his deployment to the Arab country.

Laga was rushed to Shumese Hospital in Riyadh following the incident.

The OFW, however, does not remember anything about the fall when he regained consciousness.

The OFW’s employer shouldered his medical bills while his insurance covered his flight expenses on his return to the Philippines.

Upon his arrival in Manila, Laga was confined at the Adventist Medical Center for further monitoring. He was later on cleared and arrived in Davao City last week.

“Though the worker finds difficulty in moving his feet, he cannot move on his own, his condition is already stable. His doctor advised that he only needs physical analysis,” Bergado said.

The government has extended its support to the OFW through the “Balik Pinas! Balik Hanapbuhay” program which gives financial assistance worth Php20,000 to distressed OFWs.
