Kin seeks help after video of long-lost OFW in Saudi surfaces

The kin of an overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia sought help after seeing a video of the long-lost OFW on Facebook.

The family of OFW Yolanda Aniban Visitacion, 59, from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, were in complete shock when they saw a video of Visitacion whom they have not heard from for seven years.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) office in Bacolod said their request for assistance has been received by the Philippine Embassy in Saudi.

In the said Facebook video, a woman wearing a black hijab identified herself as Yolanda Aniban who had been working in Saudi Arabia for six to seven years to take care of her employer’s child.

Visitacion called her employer “meta pobre” or someone who looks down on poor people. She added that her employer hits and kicks her.

The Filipina added that when someone would comment on her frail physique, her employer would hit her once they get home.

However, the OFW said that her biggest problem at the moment is her failing vision. One of her eyes is going blind.

The video was posted by Jennifer Debaja Palomo, a member of the OFW Public Service and Guidance advocate group and international correspondent of RMN Iloilo, three weeks ago.

In an interview with Inquirer, Palomo said the video was taken by a person named Eileen who met Visitacion when the former’s company catered for the OFW’s employer.

Visitacion flew to Saudi in 2008 to work as a seamstress. However, her family lost contact with her seven years ago.

Visitacion’s agency had closed while her passport is believed to have already expired.
