OFWs affected by deployment ban may apply in Australia, Japan, Singapore

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) announced that thousands of job posts as welders, laborers, plumbers, drivers, and cooks are available in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and other countries for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

According to POEA, job vacancies for those who wish to work in the welding industry are open in Japan (5,125), United States (3,632), Australia (1,487), Singapore (1,300), and New Zealand (900).

Laborers are also needed in Taiwan, Brunei, New Zealand and Czech Republic; while plumbers are needed in Japan and New Zealand.

POEA added that jobs for drivers are also available in Brunei and New Zealand while those who work in the culinary industry may work as cooks in Australia, Brunei and Macau.

POEA Deputy Administrator Joecelyn Sanchez that OFWs from Kuwait affected by the deployment ban are more likely to be hired than others because of their previous job experience in the Gulf state.

“Skilled workers from Kuwait ay may experience from that country kaya kung maga-pply sila sa mga alternative markets natin for sure matatanggap naman sila because of the experience,” Sanchez said.

The agency also reminded aspiring OFWs to be wary of possible illegal recruiters.

On February 9, the Philippine government announced the total deployment ban of OFWs to Kuwait following the death of Joanna Demafelis whose body was found inside a freezer of an apartment in the Gulf state.
Since the imposition of the deployment ban, thousands of Filipino workers have repatriated to the Philippines.
