Dubai unveils world’s largest ferris wheel

The construction of the largest and tallest ferris wheel in the world is now more than halfway complete, Dubai Media Office confirmed on Wednesday, July 12, 2017.

Property developer Meraas is currently Installing the fifth of eight sections of Ain Dubai’s wheel rim. Once completed, the observation wheel will be over 210 metres tall, surpassing the 167-metre High Roller in Las Vegas and the 190-metre New York Wheel planned for Staten Island.

Ain Dubai is being assembled at Bluewaters Island, where visitors and residents will be able to have 360-degree-views of the city and the coastline.

“Ain Dubai reflects our ambition of creating new destinations that contribute to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, vision of a city where people are encouraged to create, explore and enjoy,” said Abdulla Al Habbai, group chairman at Meraas.

The construction of the ferris wheel started in 2016 and the final structure is expected to have 9 tonnes of steel, 25 percent more than the amount used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
