“Though we are working tirelessly, seeing your guests, from various nationalities, happy by your service makes it enjoyable and fulfilling,” said Daryl.

Daryl is also happy with the hotel management because it treats its staff fairly – giving decent accommodation with recreational facilities, free wi-fi and meals.

“There are a lot of advantages working in a hotel industry. Even though our salaries are not high compared to other industries, we get compensated by service charge, tips and incentives when hitting a target,” he said.

Daryl added that the hotel provides opportunities to its staff by giving cross-trainings in different departments. Agreed Ronalyn Caballero Loreno, a hostess-waitress in one of the big hotel resorts in Jumeirah.

“I chose to work in hotel because I love to take care of people. I love interacting with them and giving them good and satisfying service as guests,” said Loreno.

Loreno said she learned that to be effective in the industry, one has to be a hard worker, dependable, flexible and a good team player.
“You should also know how to manage your time and know how to multi-ask,” she said.

Loreno pointed out that there are many advantages in working in the hotel industry such as career quick growth; promotion based on performance and not on seniority; and opportunity to work across the globe. (Henri Abenis-Macahilo)
