ROAD TO DREAM JOB: Experts say these sectors are actively hiring now in the UAE amid COVID-19

For Filipinos who are looking for jobs in the UAE, healthcare and e-commerce are among the sectors that are actively hiring at the moment amid the socio-economic effects of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), experts say.

In The Filipino Times’ live streaming on Facebook titled ‘TFT Usapang OFW: Oplan Hanap Trabaho sa UAE,’ esteemed experts and professionals discussed the industries that are currently open for employment opportunities for Filipinos currently based in or are looking to explore career opportunities in the UAE.

According to Cristina Calaguian—the founder of Dagaz HR Consultancy and Recruitment Company that helps match employees with potential employers in the region, and The Filipino Times Awards 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year finalist—Filipinos can have higher chances of getting hired in healthcare and e-commerce industries.

“Right now, nasa healthcare sector ngayon ang mas madaming requirements (people), not only nurses and doctors, but also cleaners and receptionists. Applicable ito sa lahat ng staff sa mga hospitals,” she said.

Dr. Rex Bacarra, the Dean of General Education at the American College of Dubai and The Filipino Times Educator of the Year 2019, stressed that there is also a great demand in the IT and e-commerce industry given today’s fortified digitalization as a result of the pandemic.

“The sector where there is a high demand right now would be e-commerce, and I think it has something to do with the digital marketplace. Kaya palagi kong sinasabi that it is necessary for people to look into these types of industries. Lalo na sa mga marunong sa graphics, sa software, even sa hospitality, but on the side of cleaning services,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nina Carpio—the Human Resources Director for Jollibee Foods Corporation in the UAE, and The Filipino Times New Media Personality of the Year 2018—noted that they are currently shifting their manpower to the delivery side of business due to the increased demand in food deliveries.

“The delivery services are booming and increasing as more people stay at home, so that’s where we are shifting our manpower,” she said.

Aside from these sectors, Calaguian also noted that advertising and digital marketing are also booming right now, stating that during the restrictions in the UAE, social media marketing and advertising agencies have become very busy.
