DOT ad showcases PH sceneries, hospitality

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has released a new television commercial that aims to showcase the Philippines’ hospitality through accounts from foreign nationals.

“We are shifting our focus in our promotional campaigns towards the unique experiences that each destination could offer—Filipino hospitality and security. The basic element of ‘fun’ remains as it is truly the Filipinos who make the total tourism experience fulfilling and memorable,” Rappler quoted DOT Secretary Wanda Teo as saying.

The ad features a Japanese man named M. Uchimura enjoying Philippine destinations in the North while visiting the Hundred Islands of Pangasinan, interacting with the people of Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao, riding an ATV at the Paoay Sand Dunes in Ilocos, and spending time with the locals at Calle Crisologo in Vigan.

Uchimura, who was revealed to be blind at the end of the commercial, said: “Here, you don’t have to see the sun to discover radiance; you don’t have to see colors to experience vibrance; you don’t have to see smiles to know you are safe; you don’t have to see smiles to know you are safe; you don’t have to see to feel you are home.”

The video was released early Monday, coinciding with the celebration of the 119th Independence Day.

“Sights” follows a family-oriented DOT commercial released in January.
