Private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan said Wednesday that the House prosecution panel is expected to be “one-sided” in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, responding to Sen. Robin Padilla’s criticism of the prosecution.
Speaking to reporters after the ninth day of the impeachment trial, Kapunan described Padilla’s remark as the “quote of the day.”
“Yun ang quote for the day,” Kapunan said with a laugh.
She said it is the prosecution’s duty to argue its case, just as it is the defense’s responsibility to advocate for Vice President Duterte.
“Prosecution should really be one-sided. Yun ang task ng prosecution. The defense is also one-sided because they have to prove the defense. So both sides should be one-sided,” Kapunan said.
Padilla earlier suggested the House prosecution panel appeared to be “one-sided” during the impeachment proceedings.
Kapunan reiterated that both parties in any adversarial proceeding are expected to present and defend their respective positions before the impeachment court.
