National Bureau of Investigation Senior Agent John Mark Calilung on Wednesday told the Senate impeachment court that the video of Vice President Sara Duterte presented during the impeachment trial was not generated using artificial intelligence.
Calilung made the statement during questioning by Sen. Raffy Tulfo, who asked whether he had the expertise to determine if the video was AI-generated amid questions about its authenticity.
“What is your process in determining whether a video is AI? Was any of the videos presented yesterday AI?” Tulfo asked.
“Yes, Your Honor. It was not AI-generated,” Calilung replied, saying his assessment was based on his experience and the characteristics of the video.
He noted that the recording runs for more than two hours, adding that AI-generated videos are generally much shorter.
Tulfo also asked whether the NBI examined public reaction to the video following its release.
Calilung said investigators observed social media comments expressing support for Duterte’s statements about killing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. if she were killed, while others called for a people power movement.
Tulfo said the clarifications were important in determining whether Duterte’s actions could constitute impeachable offenses, including culpable violation of the Constitution, high crimes and betrayal of public trust.
