More than 10,000 OFWs, Filipinos repatriated from Middle East

More than 10,000 overseas Filipino workers, dependents, and stranded Filipinos have safely returned to the Philippines from the Middle East through the government’s ongoing repatriation efforts, the Department of Migrant Workers said.

Based on data as of June 17, a total of 10,446 individuals have been repatriated through the joint efforts of the DMW, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and other government agencies under the One Country Team approach.

Of the total number, 8,281 were OFWs, 1,803 were dependents, and 362 were stranded Filipinos.

The DMW said 35,321 individuals have also received financial assistance and other forms of immediate support in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to assist Filipinos affected by the crisis in the region.

As of June 16, government agencies had provided a range of onsite services to affected Filipinos, including 24,588 food assistance interventions, 7,708 transport assistance services, 2,502 shelter assistance services, and 2,460 medical assistance services.

In total, the government has delivered 72,579 onsite services to OFWs and their families.

The DMW and OWWA said they continue to strengthen repatriation, welfare, and reintegration programs to ensure that Filipinos affected by crises abroad receive immediate assistance and support as they rebuild their lives upon returning home.
