The Dubai Police have issued an urgent warning against a series of viral social media videos promoting the excessive consumption of energy drinks, saying the trend poses serious health risks, particularly to children and young people.
Its Cybercrime Department under the General Department of Criminal Investigation said the content is often created purely to generate views and engagement, without regard for the physical and behavioral harm it may cause to impressionable audiences.
Authorities urged parents to closely monitor what their children are watching online and to educate them on the dangers of imitating viral challenges and trends without understanding the risks.
Medical risks cited by police include heart rhythm disorders, convulsions, loss of consciousness, and even sudden cardiac arrest linked to excessive intake of high-caffeine energy drinks.
Younger users are also at higher risk of toxicity, gastrointestinal distress, severe anxiety, sleep disruption, rapid heart rate, and elevated blood pressure.
The police reminded the public to rely only on official medical sources for health information and to report harmful or dangerous online content through official channels, including the Dubai Police smart application, the E-Crime platform, and the non-emergency 901 hotline.
The warning comes amid a wider digital safety campaign by Dubai Police, which recently launched a bilingual awareness platform in English and Arabic to help the public identify online fraud, avoid cyber threats, and navigate social media safely.
The initiative can be accessed through Dubai Police E-Crime Hub, and is aimed at educating parents, businesses, and employees on digital safety and responsible online behavior.
