Former Vice President and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo called on the public to abandon the idea of a single “savior” in politics, stressing that leadership is not limited to one person’s capabilities.
In an interview, Robredo reiterated that she is no longer interested in seeking a national post and instead prefers to focus on local governance.
“Ako sa tingin ko dapat, alisin yung mentality na may isang savior. Dahil wala namang ganyan. Wala namang monopoly ng kakayahan,” she said.
Robredo acknowledged her own limitations, saying she is better suited to lead at the local level, particularly as mayor of Naga City. She noted that while she may not excel in politics, she makes up for it through hard work and dedication.
The former vice president ran in the 2022 presidential elections but placed second to Ferdinand Marcos Jr.. Despite calls for her to run in the 2025 midterm elections, she said she never considered seeking a Senate seat and instead decided as early as mid-2024 to pursue local leadership.
Asked about potential national leaders, Robredo said there are many qualified individuals, citing Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, and Kiko Pangilinan.
She also named Vico Sotto and Joy Belmonte as leaders she believes have the potential to serve at the national level.
“Sa tingin ko si Vico would make a good President, ang ano lang talaga ay edad,” she said, adding that Belmonte is also among those she sees as capable.
Robredo earlier said she is considering another term as Naga City mayor, noting that she still has ongoing work to complete for her constituents. She maintained that she is not the only one capable of leadership and that returning to national politics is not part of her current plans.
