UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks in Abu Dhabi on regional security developments amid ongoing military escalation and its impact on international peace, navigation, and the global economy.
The discussions took place during Zelenskyy’s working visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he was received by Sheikh Mohamed at the Presidential Court.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Ukrainian leader and said the visit reflects the strong and growing ties between the UAE and Ukraine.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the continuing Iranian terrorist attacks targeting the UAE and other countries in the region, including assaults on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, saying they violate sovereignty, international law, and the United Nations Charter, while undermining regional and global peace and security.
For his part, Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE is responding to the situation with “wisdom and restraint” in a bid to prevent further escalation in the region.
He stressed that the UAE remains committed to defending its sovereignty and is fully prepared to confront threats against civilians and critical infrastructure, while exercising its right to self-defense in accordance with international law.
The two sides also explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Ukraine.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the agreement’s objectives and expanding economic ties.
Zelenskyy also expressed appreciation for the UAE’s support for initiatives aimed at achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, along with several ministers and advisers.
Earlier, Zelenskyy was welcomed at the airport by Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.
