The Philippine Embassy in the UAE hosted a simple celebration to commemorate the 125th Philippine Independence Day at the Embassy Grounds on June 12, 2023. The event, which attracted over 100 attendees, highlighted the significance of this historic day for the Filipino community living in the United Arab Emirates.
The ceremony commenced with a soul-stirring rendition of the Philippine National Anthem, performed by The Philippine Global School (TPGS) Chorale. Their melodious voices echoed through the venue, stirring feelings of patriotism and unity among the participants.
Gracing the occasion, His Excellency Alfonso A. Ver, the Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, led the ceremonies and delivered a heartfelt message on behalf of President Bongbong Marcos, paying tribute to the 125th anniversary of Philippine independence. Additionally, messages from Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Department of National Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro and Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople were conveyed, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting overseas Filipino communities.
The event saw the presence of esteemed Filipino community leaders, as well as Filipino teachers and students from various schools in Abu Dhabi. Their attendance showcased the strong bond and solidarity shared by Filipinos residing in the UAE.
Adding a touch of literary significance to the festivities, the Book Development Association of the Philippines presented a generous book gifting to The Philippine Global School (TPGS) and The Philippine School (TPS) in Abu Dhabi. This noble gesture aimed to promote education and literacy among Filipino students in the UAE, fostering a love for reading and learning.
In line with the spirit of service, the Philippine Nurses Association in the UAE partnered with Aster’s Klinika ng Bayan to organize a commendable medical mission for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) during the celebrations. This initiative provided much-needed healthcare services and assistance to the hardworking Filipinos, ensuring their well-being and promoting the spirit of compassion and support within the community.
