MANILA: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Quarantine were able to intercept on Thursday two delivery riders who were supposed to deliver illegal drugs to two returning overseas Filipino (ROF) from United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The two stay in a hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig for their quarantine.
Based on the PCG report, the Task Group Bantay Bayanihan, said that at around 4PM one deliver rider arrived at the hotel carrying a package.
Based on the online form, the delivery contains clothes and cellphone.
But upon inspection, officials discovered that there ate small plastic with ‘methamphetamine’ at the back of the cellphone.
The rider was brought to the Taguig Police Station for questioning.
The rider was found to be innocent on the content of the package.
After an hour and a half, another rider arrived and tried to deliver another package to the hotel.
Authorities found ‘white crystalline substance’ inside the package.
The rider was then brought to the police for questioning.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) also confirms that the two plastics contain ‘methamphetamine’.
Officials are now investigating the two returning overseas Filipinos.
The PNP mulls filing charges to the returning overseas Filipinos, the second rider, and those who sent the package for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“Huwag na nating ilagay sa balag ng alanganin ang kapakanan ng mga OFW at iba pang ROF sa mga quarantine facilities. Maliban sa nakokompromiso nito ang kalusugan at kaligtasan ng ating mga kaanak, maaari pa tayong makasuhan dahil sa paglabag sa batas. Kailangan namin ang inyong kooperasyon,” PCG Rear Admiral Punzalan said.
