At least 400,000 fake face masks were seized from three Asian men in Dubai.
The three suspects were caught keeping the counterfeit face masks at three villas in the emirate.
At least 25,000 gloves were also recovered from the three suspects.
The Dubai police said the fake face masks were to be sold on WhatsApp.
Criminals have taken advantage of the high demand of face mask due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Duba police said.
“This was a new criminal trend brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic which Dubai police was capable of detecting and foiling,” said Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police, in a report by The National.
Col Omar bin Hamad, director of the force’s department of anti-economic crimes, said that during the year the police have arrested 320 individuals and investigated 250 counterfeit cases involving AED2.6 billion of fake goods. (CC)
