The first non-Iranian oil tanker transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday following the announcement of a fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States, according to maritime tracking data from MarineTraffic.
The Gabon-flagged tanker MSG passed through the strategic waterway carrying around 7,000 tonnes of fuel oil from the United Arab Emirates and is bound for Aegis Pipavav in India.
Despite the transit, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains limited, suggesting the key shipping route has yet to fully reopen since the two-week ceasefire took effect on Wednesday.
Data from MarineTraffic owner Kpler showed that, aside from the MSG, only two Iran-flagged tankers and six bulk carriers have passed through the strait since the truce began.
