Following Boracay Island’s reopening of its shores to tourists after a six-month shutdown, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Eduardo Año proposed to have a month-long rest every year for the island.
Año said this will allow the top tourist destination naturally heal itself again.
He suggested one-month rehabilitation to be implemented in months when southwest monsoon or “habagat” season is prevalent.
”Tapatan natin yung habagat na maulan para magkaroon tayo ng time to rehabilitate again, to let the island have a natural healing,” he added.
Meanwhile, businesses in Boracay supported the proposal but are asking for clearer guidelines on its implementation.
