OFW killed in a gun fight in Cagayan

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) became the casualty in a gunfight between an official and an officer of the Philippine National Police in Lal-lo, Cagayan on Saturday, September 22.

The two policemen identified as Senior Inspector Jeffrey Equuizabal of Regional Office 2 of Tuguegarao and PO1 Mike Sosa of Gonzaga Police went in as separate customers of a KTV bar and allegedly fought over a guest relations officer.

The Lal-lo Police identified the victim as Edward Opiña. According to Chief Inspector Ramon Macarubbo, Equuizabal and Opiña were drinking together when Opiña caused a commotion because he could not book a GRO to accompany him.

Sosa happened to be in the same bar and got involved in the fight until the two policemen pulled out their guns and exchanged fire. The police were able to recover six shells of caliber 9mm bullets in the crime scene.

The other customers were able to flee the bar but Opiña sustained a gunshot wound in his torso, immediately killing him. The two policemen were also wounded in the gun fight, reported Pilipino Star.
