The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Friday, September 21, were able to seize 800 grams of methamphetamine or shabu amounting to P5.44 million at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
NAIA district collector Mimel Talusan said that the shabu was hidden inside an art table which arrived at the NAIA FedEx warehouse as a package, reported Rappler.
To identify those involved in the shipment of the package, BOC organized a controlled delivery operation or the process of allowing illegal shipments to be delivered to the country to track the sender, consignee, and receiver of the package.
Later on, the authorities organized the arrest of Julie Ann Lozada and her partner Cyril Garcia Cabigan who were identified as the consignee and receiver respectively. They were arrested in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Both will be charged in violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The sender, meanwhile, was identified as Asumani Lofeta.
The illegal drugs have been turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
