The Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) announced that overseas Filipino workers (OFW) will no longer be deployed to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).
POEA said they have consulted with the Department of Foreign Affairs before they imposed the ban. “Now therefore, the POEA Governing Board, in a meeting duly convened, resolves as it is hereby resolved, to impose a total ban on the processing and deployment of workers to the Federated States of Micronesia,” the POEA issued in a statement.
Last year, the DFA received a report that Filipino medical workers were being maltreated in the Chuuk State Hospital, effectively blacklisting it from being a potential employer of OFWs.
The resolution of the POEA will be final until the FSM “settles the unresolved cases and improves the working conditions of OFWs.”
