DOJ to step in on prosecutor’s viral video

The Department of Justice will look into possible sanctions against the prosecutor who was involved in the viral video of a parking dispute with a traffic officer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra disclosed that he will discuss with the Internal Affairs Office of the DOJ about what to do with Christine Villamora Estepa, the identified prosecutor
.
In the video, the woman is heard asking what the MMDA’s rule on towing is. She refuses to show her license to the authorities and insists that she arrived within five-minutes after being notified of her violation. She is joined by her husband who argues that he will blame the MMDA if she suffers a miscarriage.

While the couple has issued a public apology, the MMDA has filed a complaint before Land Transportation Office to suspend or revoke the prosecutor’s driving license, reported Manila Bulletin.

Guevarra, for his part, said that whether the MMDA files a complaint or not, he will look into the matter and will give Estepa a chance to defend herself.

According to the MMDA, Estepa committed multiple violations including illegal parking, violating the number coding system, arrogance and evading traffic enforcers.
