One month after granting women the right to drive, Saudi Arabia Ministry of Justice approved 12 women to become notaries, a first in the country’s history.
The verification license allows women to perform legal tasks such as issue and cancel powers of attorney, as well as to certify documents to help establish companies or transfer property rights, reported Times of India.
The Saudi Arabian government is looking into increasing the women in the workforce to 28% by 2020.
Despite this development, Saudi Arabian women still have to rely on their closest male relative for permission when renewing a passport, enrolling in classes, or undergoing medical procedures.
