Saudi authorities promise justice for OFW forced to drink bleach

Saudi authorities assured the Philippine government justice for the overseas Filipina worker (OFW), who was forced to drink bleach by her employer, will be served.

Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato told reporters, “Saudi authorities have issued assurances that justice will be served in the case of Agnes Mancilla.”

Mancilla is currently recuperating in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Saudi Arabia after she was allegedly forced to drink bleach by her employer.

Mancilla, a 36-year-old household service worker from Infanta, Quezon, has been admitted to the King Fahad Central Hospital in Jizan, Saudi Arabia after the incident.

Fellow OFWs rushed Mancilla to the hospital after they found her unconscious on April 2.

The Pinay worker has undergone laparotomy to get the bleach out of her liver. Doctors also found burns on Mancilla’s back.

Mancilla’s employer also bit her when she made mistakes. The OFW was also forced to work long hours with little food.

“Napakasakit po naman ng nangyari, talaga pong pinarusahan nang husto, unti-unting pinapatay ‘yung anak ko,” Mancilla’s mother said upon learning of her situation

Mancilla’s hospital bills are being shouldered by her recruitment agency Bison Management Corporation, which is also providing her legal assistance to go after her employer.

“Our boss is in Saudi Arabia so she went to the hospital tapos meron siyang in-assign na tao dun,” said Lilia Traviña, assistant general manager of Bison Management Corporation.

The recruitment agency also plans to bring Mancilla’s parents to Saudi to monitor their child.

The OFW’s woman employer is now with authorities.
