Filipino fisherman back home after 3-day sea ordeal

The Filipino fisherman who was stranded of Dalagang Bukid Shoal in Palawan for three days has been rescued by Philippine authorities.

The fisherman, identified as 33-year-old Albert Carcuevas, was floating in the waters of disputed West Philippine Sea for days without water and food when the Philippine Navy rescued him near Dalagang Bukid Shoal on March 23.

According to Cherryl Tindog, spokesperson of the Philippines’ Western Command (Wescom) in Palawan, said Carcuevas’ fishing boat’s engine encountered problems at sea, causing the boat to drift further off course.

“It was a good thing he was spotted because he was already out of supplies. He had spent three days without food and water,” Tindog said.

Upon rescue, the fisherman was taken to BRP Sierra Madre.

“He is in stable condition and his family has been told. The Western Command shall ensure his safe return,” said Tindog.
