The eldest sibling of slain overseas Filipina worker (OFW) Joanna Demafelis reiterated that the family will not receive blood money from his sister’s employers who were sentenced to death by hanging.
Jojet Demafelis said the family only wants justice for the untimely death of Joanna.
“Hindi po namin kailangan ang ganoon. Ang kailangan po namin ay hustisya po para sa kapatid namin, pero ang bayad-bayad na ganyan, wala po sa amin ‘yan,” Jojet Demafelis, the eldest of the nine Demafelis siblings, told GMA News.
Joejet added that the family is relieved to learn about the conviction after labor secretary Silvestre Bello III informed them about the development in the case.
“Unti-unti nababawasan po iyong bigat ng dinadala ng mga magulang ko at tsaka ng mga kapatid ko rin po,” Jojet said in a separate radio interview.
Demafelis’ sibling also expressed the family’s interest to fly to Kuwait if the government will allow them to.
“Sa ngayon po inaantay namin ang [abiso] ng gobyerno natin sa amin, kung pupunta kami doon (Kuwait),” Jojet said.
Yesterday, the Kuwaiti government sentenced death by hanging to employers and main suspects in the death of Demafelis – Nader Essam Assaf, a Lebanese national, and his wife Mona Hassoun, a Syrian national.
The court released the decision during the first hearing of the case under a Kuwaiti court.
The couple can still appeal for their case if they will return to Kuwait.
