His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, helped the residents of a Cornish village in England to acquire a Methodist property.
Residents of Godolphin Cross appealed to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to donate funds for buying the former chapel, which could be turned into a community center.
“These kinds of things, don’t normally happen. It is a fairy tale. It’s not often a sheikh steps in to help a Cornish village,” Cornwall Live quoted association chairman Richard Mckie as saying.
The association needed Dh460,000 to buy the hall but had only raised about a quarter of the asking price prior to the Vice President’s donation.
Through the donation, which was initially described as a grant from “an international donor”, the community can now make a formal offer to buy the chapel.
