Taxi drivers in Abu Dhabi are not yet charging higher fare as they have yet to adjust their meters to reflect the new rates.
The minimum fare was raised to Dh12 Wednesday, but some drivers in the emirate still charges the old fare as their meters still need re-calibrating.
“I picked up a Filipina passenger on Electra Street today and she asked about the Dh12 minimum fare. I told her that, for now, she needs to pay only what’s on the meter,” The National quoted Pakistani Wali Ayaz Khan, a taxi driver, as saying.
“At that time, I had to charge the same rate on May 1 because my meter had not been adjusted.” Khan said.
According to another driver who did not wish to be named, it could take two or three days before they can really make the fare hike effective.
The fare hike was announced in May for starting fees, per-kilometer rates and pre-booking fees.
Meanwhile, fliagfall rate has increased to Dh5 from Dh3.50 from 6 am to 10 pm. It can be at Dh4 to Dh5.50 at other times.
The rate per kilometer is now at Dh1.82. The waiting fee is still at Dh0.50 per minute.
