Marcos says ex-Speaker Romualdez to face charges over flood control scam

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said several contractors, senior Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials, and lawmakers have already been charged and detained in connection with the alleged flood control projects scam.

In his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos said the investigation has progressed, with the Office of the Ombudsman nearing the filing of multiple charges against former Speaker and Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, who is also the President’s cousin.

“Dumating na tayo sa puntong ayon sa Ombudsman ay malapit na ang paghahain ng patong-patong na kaso laban sa dating Speaker. Masakit sa akin ito pero kailangan natin itong gawin,” Marcos said.

The President stressed that family ties would not stand in the way of accountability.

“Hindi ako pangulo ng aking pamilya,” he said.
