Padilla denies failing to submit counter-affidavit to Ombudsman

Sen. Robin Padilla on Monday denied allegations that he failed to submit a counter-affidavit to the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with an obstruction of justice complaint filed against him.

Speaking during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, Padilla said it was untrue that he ignored the Ombudsman’s directive.

Padilla said he respected the Office of the Ombudsman and had, in fact, submitted a counter-affidavit. He also presented what he described as the original copy of the document before the impeachment court.

He reiterated, however, that he does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

The obstruction of justice complaint stems from an incident involving Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who left the Senate hours after a shooting at the Senate building while reportedly accompanied by Padilla. Dela Rosa is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
