Sharjah Police has issued a strong warning against motorists who jump red lights, emphasizing the serious dangers such violations pose to road users.
As part of its road safety campaign, the agency released an awareness video featuring real-time surveillance footage and scenes from its operations center, demonstrating how a single reckless act can nearly result in a collision.
Authorities highlighted the use of advanced monitoring systems that track traffic movements across key intersections, allowing violations to be detected instantly and reinforcing enforcement beyond physical patrols.
In one instance shown in the video, a vehicle speeds through a red light at a busy junction, forcing other motorists to brake suddenly to avoid a crash. Police said such behavior puts multiple lives at risk within seconds.
Officials stressed that obeying traffic signals is not only a legal obligation but also a matter of public responsibility.
“Adhering to red lights is a responsibility and a civilized behavior that protects lives and enhances road safety,” authorities said.
Under UAE law, running a red light carries a Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. Accumulating 24 black points can lead to license suspension.
Sharjah Police urged drivers to remain alert and disciplined, reiterating that road safety is a shared responsibility.
