The Commission on Elections said that substitution can no longer be applied to Senator Bong Go following his announcement that he is quitting the presidential race.
“Since it would be a voluntary withdrawal, no substitution,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.

Jimenez said that Go needs to physically go to the poll body to withdraw from the race.
“The Law Department currently has no authority to accept any filings, considering that today is a holiday,” Jimenez said.
Go said that his family is against his plans to run for president and President Rodrigo Duterte accepted and understood his decision to run.

Ayaw ko rin lalong maipit si Pangulong Duterte,” Go said in a statement.
“In the past few days, I realized that my heart and my mind are contradicting my actions. (TDT)
