VIDEO: Dubai suspends operation of Metro, tram services

Dubai’s Metro and Tram services will stop operations temporarily starting April 5 until further notice, announced the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
There will be no access granted neither any other activities will be allowed in the stations during this period including home delivery, RTA said in a statement.
All stations on the red and green line of the Dubai Metro will be closed from the public in a bid to further intensify precautionary measures against COVID-19.
“In support to the government’s efforts to contain COVID-19, the Roads and Transport Authority has announced the temporary closure (complete shutdown) of all stations on the metro Red and Green lines effectively 5th April 2020 until further notice. Serco Dubai Metro Retail Support Team will notify all valued retailers once we get a confirmation from all concerned authorities if it is safe to reopen,” the statement read.
In a tweet of the Dubai Media Office, it said that this is the first time that the operations of the Dubai Metro was suspended since its opening in 2009.


On Saturday, the UAE reported another 241 coronavirus disease cases bringing the total number to 1,505.
One more death was recorded, bringing the death toll for the virus to 10, the spokesperson for the UAE health sector, Dr Farida Al Hosani, confirmed.
