Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello has rejected the proposal to extend the probationary period for workers from 6 months to 24 months before being regularized.
Bello said the proposed measure is not in accordance with the administration’s policy on security of tenure of the workers.
“I don’t support it. It’s too long. That is no longer in keeping with our policy of security of tenure,” Bello told ABS-CBN News.
The Labor Secretary also said that the proposal could lead to illegal contractual arrangements.
“Is 6 months not enough to determine the qualification of the prospective worker? If you cannot know him in 2 days, you will never know him anywhere,” Bello said.
Probinsyano Ako party-list Rep. Jose Singson Jr., has filed a House Bill seeking to extend the maximum prescribed period of probationary employment to 24 months.
The lawmaker said that the 6-month period is not enough to determine the qualification of a worker. (TN)
