Young Filipino minds to shine at The Filipino Times, Philippine Consulate’s Interschool Debate

Students coming from various Filipino schools in the UAE are expected to converge and participate in the upcoming Interschool Debate organized by The Filipino Times, UAE’s biggest Filipino newspaper and the largest digital platform for Filipinos in the region, and the Philippine Consulate General for Dubai and Northern Emirates, with Skyline University College as its partner school.

Representatives from Al Alfiah Filipino Private School, New Filipino Private School, The Philippine School Dubai, United International Private School, as well as two campuses of Far Eastern Private School will compete and showcase their intellectual prowess through public speaking on May 3, 2019 at the Skyline University College at Sharjah.

H.E. Paul Raymund Cortes, Philippine Consul General said: “The Interschool Debate is an important platform for Filipino students to showcase their oratorical skills and in-depth knowledge about current global issues through public speaking. We acknowledge that Overseas Filipino students face formidable 21-st century realities and such an event can further strengthen their skills as they become more exposed to an increasingly ultra-competitive political-economic community.”

Themed “Now’s the Time for the Youth to be Heard”, the Interschool Debate is a 2-part event which will begin with an Extemporaneous Speech competition on April 27 during the second day of Middle East’s largest Philippine property exhibition, Philippine Property and Investment Exhibition (PPIE).

“The Filipino Times is proud to partner with the Philippine Consulate for this CSR event as both entities exemplify the importance of honing and molding the hope of our future generations – the youth. The debate will not only be a place for students to channel their thoughts and speak their mind, but more importantly – this will be a crucial step for these young Filipinos to begin creating global connections and unforgettable experiences that they will learn from and treasure wherever their path leads them,” said The Filipino Times General Manager Vince Ang.
