A 65-year-old Filipina in the UAE has been confined in a hospital after suffering a stroke due to stress brought by falling prey to pickpockets.
Five days after her wallet containing Dh3,000 was lost, Estrella Belaro fell ill, reported Gulf News.
According to the report, she brought the matter to authorities, but the incident was not caught by the CCTV camera.
Estrella can now be discharged, but her family is afraid that they may not be able to take her out of the hospital due to outstanding hospital bill worth Dh220,000.
Her husband is now appealing for help to be able to take Estrella home. He told the report that the Philippine Consulate will shoulder their return to the Philippines, but they have to settle the hospital bill first.
The couple, who hails from Marikina City, has been living in the for 11 years with their two daughters, aged 29 and 26.
