Netizens slam NCR police chief for birthday celebration, say officers did not follow social distancing

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Major Gen. Debold Sinas came under fire after photos showing his birthday celebration on May 8 along with other police officers circulated on social media.
In a report by Inquirer.net, the NCRPO chief celebrated his birthday through a relief aid program for the poor families in NCR. Photos of the celebration showed Sinas socializing with the guests, and the officers lining up for the buffet spread allegedly without following social distancing rules. There are also images that showed cases of beer in the background, and other officers not wearing face masks.

According to the regulations set by the government against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) include the observance of physical distancing and liquor ban. Violators of these protocols will be penalized and arrested.
The Philippine National Police Chief (PNP), meanwhile, said they will investigate the matter and determine if protocols were violated in the celebration. However, PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa said that from what he had seen, no regulations were violated.
Walang party na nangyari. Ang sabi ni Gen. Sinas, probably nagkaroon ng mañanita. Pero dun sa mañanita ang sabi ni Gen. Sinas is that in-observe pa rin nila social distancing. Now, I don’t think na merong violation ito,” he said.
Gamboa added, “As of yet, I still trust Gen. Sinas. Alam naman natin napakahirap nung trabaho niya sa NCRPO.”
Sinas has since apologized, but noted that the photos were from a long time ago and that some of them were edited.
