Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai his Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Monday marked the demise of his father the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, describing him as “the engineer of Dubai.”
In a tweet on Twitter, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed said: “On this day, Oct 7th, 1990, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum passed away… The father and engineer of Dubai died on this day…many hearts were broken by his demise…many who have considered him as their father could hardly believe he has gone.”
“The death of a father is the most painful as it makes you an orphan… He was the cause of your existence… and he was the motive for your life and success… Actually, he was the reason for the existence of the homeland.”
The official Emarat Alyoum and Albayan newspapers, which published H.H. Sheikh Mohammed tweet, paid tribute to Sheikh Rashid for his role in turning Dubai into the region’s commercial hub and transshipment centre.
The late Sheikh Rashid was known for his support of the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed, the UAE founding father, in reaching an agreement in 1968 to unify Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
