Manila, Philippines– If Overseas Filipino workers will choose the next set of senators, the top post will be a close fight between former Philippine National Police Chief Ronald Bato Dela Rosa and TV host and doctor Willie Ong.
The PPCRV partial and unofficial tally showed that Dela Rosa obtained 124,361 votes while Ong garnered 120,600 votes. Former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go is not far behind with 119,990 votes.
Dela Rosa is secured with a Senate seat ranking 5th place in the overall tally. Ong on the other hand places18th.
Dela Rosa is backed by President Rodrigo Duterte’s political party PDP-Laban and the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
Ong on the other hand couldn’t believe his high ranking in the senatorial race despite lack of resources.
“Biro mo. Walang campaign donations. Walang gastos. Wala TV, Radio Ads. Wala endorsement ng pulitiko. Halos walang Tarpaulin. Wala lahat. FB at PUSO lang. Naka-7.2 Milyon tayo! 50% awareness pa lang ako eh.” Ong said in a statement.
The celebrity doctor also thanked his supporters for giving their 100 percent trust to his candidacy.
Ong’s Facebook page has more than ten million followers as of this writing. (Rappler photo)
