Over 16,600 mobile phones left in Dubai’s taxis, buses and metro returned to owners

DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) received close to 69,000 reports about lost items last year and found 64% of them, the agency said in an advisory.

RTA said lost and found items included 16,607 mobile phones; 7,878 travel bags; 3,975 wallets; 1,136 passports; 1,880 important keys and cards; 955 eyeglasses; 542 computers; and 872 sunglasses.

Additionally, it also found lost jewelry, cash amounts and precious items estimated to be worth Dh480,000 or US$60,678.

In all, RTA announced that its Call Center had received 2.07 million calls in 2018, and the targeted response time of 20 seconds per call had covered 86% of the total calls.

“The number of calls picked up by the Call Center (8009090), which had exceeded two million calls last year, reflects the extent of interaction between the Center and RTA clients whose services, inquiries, suggestions, complaints are quickly responded. Recording such a high number of calls is also indicative of the diverse services provided by the RTA to the public,” said Ahmed Mahboub, Executive Director of Customers Happiness at RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector.
