Illegal recruiter nabbed for promising jobs for aspiring OFWs

Philippine operatives nabbed an illegal recruiter on Tuesday, July 18, after promising aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFW) fake jobs in Japan in exchange of money.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Anti-Transnational Crime Unit (CIDG-ATCU) arrested Edna Recierdo in an entrapment operation in Quezon City, reported ABS-CBN News.

CIDG-ATCU head Superintendent Roque Merdegia Jr., said Recierdo promised his victims jobs as factory workers in a shoe company in Japan with high salary and free accommodation.

One of her victims, “Ana” said the suspect did not show up on the day of her flight to Japan to give her supporting documents.

Other victims, meanwhile, also reported that Recierdo asked for payment of Php100,000 for their processing and medical fee, and trainings on Nihongo language.

“Hindi kami nagduda kasi nakikipag-communicate sila eh. Marami silang ipinapakitang nakakaalis,” Ana said.

Recierdo will be charged with illegal recruitment and estafa.

CIDG-ATCU reminded aspiring OFWs to verify job orders overseas at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to avoid falling victims to illegal recruiters.
