Saudi defense ministry official, 2 others arrested over bribe

A defense ministry official in Saudi Arabia was arrested after receiving bribe amounting to $267,000, reported Reuters.

Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al Muajab issued a statement that the bribery over a contract with another company was “a betrayal of trust”.

“The official sought to facilitate irregular procedures for the disbursement of financial dues to a company, taking advantage of his professional influence,” he said.

Two more were arrested when the official in question revealed their involvement in the case.

The identities of the people involved were not disclosed to the media.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been keen on arresting public officials involved in cases of corruption.
