Catch RTA’s new eco-friendly buses in Dubai

UAE locals and expatriates may soon enjoy their ride aboard bigger and eco-friendly buses in Dubai.

Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has started the test run of the first upgraded public bus that complies with the European Emission Standards.

This means the eco-friendly bus weighs lighter than usual buses and operates with low fuel consumption.

Under the trial, RTA fielded Euro 6 VDL bus unit that can load up to 45 people. The cutting-edge vehicle will be put under a six-month trial to assess its economic feasibility, environmental benefits, reduction in carbon emission rate, engine efficiency, and maintenance.

The green bus initiative responds to the call of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to maintain greener economy.

“The move conforms to the Dubai Government’s energy and carbon control strategy seeking to make Dubai a model to be emulated in power efficiency and low emissions,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director general and chairman of RTA’s board of directors.
