MANILA: Rix “Terabite” Francisco, 24, ate five 107-gram quarter pounder Zark’s burger in 60 seconds to set the world record for the most number of eaten burgers in one minute.
The world record attempt, organized by Zark’s Burgers in partnership with History Channel was held on Saturday, August 27, at the first History Con Manila at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, reported InterAksyon.
A contingent from Guinness World Records is set to verify the results of Francisco’s record to make it official. Guinness World Records is known to list and be a reference of record-breaking facts and achievements.
One known world record of the same category listed by Guinness was that of Furious Pete, a.k.a. Peter Czerwinski of Canada. He was able to take down four hamburgers in one minute in an event at MEATMarket in Covent Garden, London, UK last July 2013, said the news portal.
”Yung practice namin sa Zark’s talagang ginagawa namin lahat makuha lang yung record. Yung record ko siguro pag napractice ko pa ng mas mabilis, ita-try ko talaga i-break yung record ko para manatiling nasa Manila ang record sa burger,” Francisco was quoted as saying.
Francisco, who is a graduating student taking up Bachelor of Education, further added that during practice in preparation for the record-breaking attempt, they usually eat five to six burgers in a minute so that their jaw and throat would not be forced or get tired easily.
Meanwhile, Kelvin “Zark Man” Medina, Douglas “Doug” Candano, Justin “Food Shredder” Cardano, Bal Yu, and Samuel Abeja were the other contenders during the event. They were chosen during burger eating battles in different branches of Zark’s Burgers in the country.
